US Amber Alert:

The Altaghat Project combines the protection of disadvantaged women with environmental and cultural tourism and the protection of endangered flora and fauna in India. It is a women's shelter, a unique tourism resort, and a local resource for environmental awareness. A woman or girl suffering from various forms of abuse will gain job skills, build self confidence and ultimately attain independence through the Altaghat program.

Altaghat is run by a board of Trustees, who in cooperation with the RPC International Trust Foundation are dedicated to establishing an financially self-sustaining shelter for women in need in a country where few resources exist to protect women from domestic and social abuse or violence. If cultural and environmental eco-tourism can offer the appropriate economic solution, so much the better. Combine that with the protection of India's endangered wildlife and forests, and the project becomes an awesome opportunity for good in the world.

The plan includes demonstrating to local government and to the public the inherent value eco-tourism has to India, and the states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala in southern India in particular. The protection of exotic flora and fauna from continued deforestation and loss of habitat for short-term gain and inefficient agricultural purposes must stop. To achieve these objectives, the Trustees of the Altaghat Project plan to operate a unique tourism resort staffed by disadvantaged women, with a special focus on southern India's unique flora and fauna and combining all with an exciting and diverse cultural program.
